Hi Mario. I use Prismacolor pencils for sketching most of the time. I do not care for graphite since it smears. I also never erase because then the process becomes about erasing instead of drawing.
Sorry for misunderstanding your words, Prismacolor doesn't sell here in Europe, so I don't know their products. I guess their pencils are a bit "waxy".
Mario, yes the pencils are waxy. I also enjoy using Stabilo 8046 pencils. They are very waxy and are great to use when you are drawing on smooth paper. The only negative to the Stabilo pencils is they are water soluble so if you drop your sketch in a puddle or are caught in a rain storm, you end up with a mess. I believe these would be available in Europe.
Great to see your blog, Don! I've been a fan for quite a long time now. In fact, a notable amount of my initial learning was from your first Digital Character Design and Painting book!
Hi Don. Its great to see you have a blog going. Your work is outstanding. I could not have illustrated my first storybook successfully without the help of your first book on Painter. Look forward to the PS update.
I know that you are releasing a new edition of your Character Design book for Photoshop CS3. Any chance of ever doing another version for Painter?
That book got me started in digital painting and I would love to have an updated version. Thanks for getting me started in digital art and keep up the amazing work!

Wonderful, thank you again. Your monsters are really frightening... :)
May I ask you: which pencil grade(s) do you use? (in 9H-9B scale, if possible)
Love the loose yet detailed quality of your character sketch work!

Looks like a young Don Seegmiller walking the halls of AAHS or the Michael we all remember before he lost it!
